Beautiful Monsters

                                                           Hoffman

Seems to me we, ignore the elephant

Standing within this tangible room

We hear, only what our ears admit

We see just what our hearts allow

Seems to me, we neglect the notion

Swimming here next to us in this ocean

Out in the clear, a quarter ton gorilla

Casually, waving as we float by

Sometimes I take a pause,

Reflecting on the spectrum

Of human capability

And am again surprised

We have all been sinners,

We will all be saints

We all seek and hide

Used to be, I slept a bit more soundly

Back when we had not yet taken sides

Back when you could hear me

Back when I could recognize you

Arenít we all beautiful monsters,

Lovers and haters, losers and winners

Heroes and villains, crazy and sane

What if, I could lighten up a little

What if you would throw me a bone

Would we achieve a greater total

Than the sum of each of us alone

When will we learn to play together

Shouldnít we, not call the kettle black

Sing in simple harmony

Cut ourselves a little bit of slack

Arenít we all beautiful monsters,

Lovers and haters, losers and winners

Heroes and villains, crazy and sane,

One and the same
